My passion for cooking and eating wholesome foods really took off after having my (now four-year old) daughter. Like so many first time moms, I tried my best. I nursed, made everything from scratch, kept her diet as organic and simple as possible and did a victory dance each time she would eat a vegetable. Tim (my husband) and I pretty much eat everything so I had big hopes for this kid but boy oh boy was I wrong.
She is the quintessential picky toddler and maybe even worse. Hates vegetables, won’t eat red sauce and doesn’t like sweets (so no bribing this kid with muffins or cookies). Her diet consists of bread, cheese, yogurt, macaroni and cheese, some fruit (were talking honey crisp apples only and strawberries), an occasional slice of pizza and earths best organic chicken nuggets. A small part of my foodie heart dies each time she refuses to try something new or throws an anti-food tantrum.
God must have felt bad for me because my (now two-year old) son eats almost anything. It may change but for now he eats a pretty balanced diet and doesn’t snub much which literally makes me squeal with delight.
In an effort to break my daughter, I try to go above and beyond to inspire this kid to eat. I pack her school lunches and try to make them as visually pleasing and fun as possible in the hopes of getting her to actually eat and to try new things.
Here is where I will be posting lots of fun ideas and new food finds for picky toddlers like my daughter and for easy-going toddlers like my son to hopefully give you a little inspiration for you the tiny tots in your life.
